Police investigating a serious assault on The Strand can advise two people have been arrested thanks to information from the public and staff enquiries.
"Two 18-year-old men are due to reappear before the Tauranga District Court Monday 8 April and Friday 12 April," says senior sergeant Scott Merritt.
"The first charged with assaulting with intent to injure and the second charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
"Police are continuing to work to identify the below group of people who we believe, alongside others, can assist our enquiries into a serious assault which occurred on Sunday 3rd of March.
"Early Sunday morning, two young men were left with serious injuries following an unprovoked and violent attack.
"Police believe a group were responsible and the offenders are not believed to be known to the victims.
"Police have reviewed CCTV footage, spoken with the victims and conducted a number of enquiries in an attempt to identify and locate the offenders.
"Police are taking this incident extremely seriously, there is no place for this violence in our community and we will follow up on any new information we receive in an attempt to locate and bring those responsible for this assault before the courts.
"Police are urging anyone who knows what happened to call Police."

I find it entertaining that people can appeal a conviction because it might affect their status in the community.
Yet for decades we see absolutely no concerns for the reputation of the family or their status in the community in relation to the activities of their close family members.
Had I involved myself in antisocial behaviour, it would have been an international incident as far as my family would have been concerned and my family would have attended court to openly apologise to the community and ask that genuine reparations were imposed.
There's nothing to be proud of when raising thugs and mindless criminals.
Maybe the obligations of parents (no matter the age of their progeny) should include attending the courthouse activities and significant fines should be meted out to those that call out supportive utterances. Contempt of court.

Do they REALLY think that the 35 PLUS residents of TAURANGA are going to head down to "the Strand" and "willow Street" for a night out with this sort of CRAP occuring ???
Before I head down there - how about a few COPPERS on FOOT keeping an EYE on what's going on !!!!!!! COPPERS driving down the street SEE NOTHING - the bad buggers see them coming !! OH and add a few PLAIN CLOTHED COPPERS to the night !!

Taking points:
1. "...people can appeal a conviction because it might affect their status in the community." That is just one of the many grounds on which we can appeal judgements. It means a more empathetic Justice system.

How many times have we advocated that parents must be held responsibile for underage criminal activity? The problem is that irresponsible (or simply inept) parents breed irresponsible kids. We MUST chase parents. Great post!
