BOP youths arrested far from home

Four Bay of Plenty youths, aged between 12-15, are in police custody following a fleeing driver incident, which started in Hillsborough.

Auckland City West Area Commander, Inspector Alisse Robertson, says Police responded to reports of a stolen vehicle travelling on State Highway 20 around 4.15am.

“Eagle, the Police Air Support Unit, sighted the vehicle travelling south and enquiries soon established the vehicle had been stolen from an address in Rotorua.

“Upon noticing Police, the vehicle has left the area at high speed.”

Police did not pursue, however Eagle continued to monitor the vehicle as it continued travelling southbound.

Inspector Robertson says Police deployed spikes on the motorway at the Bombay Hills.

“The vehicle exited the motorway at Mercer and eventually came to a stop on McLean Street.”

Three occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody at the scene while a fourth attempted to leave the area on foot.

“They were also located and arrested a short time later,” she says.

The four, aged between 12 and 15 from the Bay of Plenty region, have all since been referred to Youth Aid.

Inspector Robertson says while this is a great result for Police, it has been another night of the same concerns.

“Once again, we are very lucky no one was injured during this incident.

“At times, the vehicle was observed to be reaching almost twice the posted speed limit, which is just putting lives at risk.

“For those who choose to engage in this type of behaviour, our message is clear: Police will continue to make arrests and hold those offenders to account.”

How about, we hold the parents to account for the cost of the incident...
There's no excuse for your children having no respect for other people's property and putting the lives of other road users at risk.

Pay up losers.... Make your children understand the basics of being a human being.

Another hands off parenting achievement by some of Taranga's feral adults.
Agree with Lets get real, makes the sperm donor and the pregnancy unit (we wont call them parents because that would imply some type of parenting effort) pay up for the antics of their spawn.

Well Done

Police, good use of common sense and resources to achieve a great result with minimal danger (other than drivers stupidity).
@by lets get real, Agree, the parents/ guardians need to be made aware and held responsible for this activity.
How about as a pre-requisite for being referred to youth Aid you first go before a judge in a normal court, possibly beside your parents as they face any relevant charges?? Maybe that process will have a longer lasting effect than wrapping them up in the "oh you poor thing, it's not your fault you come from an imperfect home and upbringing, here lets us help you" blanket!

WTH were youths of those ages (without any adult) doing in a car in Auckland at 0415 when they are from BoP??!! Time to get real Parents!!

I Agree

Totally agree with you on that one Let's Get Real.
Shame there's no law about breeding. Bad seed produces worse crops and substandard stock. Ask any farmer!

A little flaw with the law

no smack no teach.
parents of these kids have no control over them as their only form of control has been taken away from them.
let them get a smack, driving cars at this speed potentially causing horrific damage. a smack shouldn't do worse then a car crash surly?
stop protecting them in justice by excusing their behavior for the upbringing. they are old enough to drive at this speed they can make their own decisions,
fear of a parent grows as you start to understand it, it grows to fear the outcome of bad decisions in the future such as these.
and stop aiding these kids in general, send them to juvy stop protecting them from bad out comes if they make bad choices,
most the time the system gives into these kids sob stories and even protects them from punishment. stupid
