Four people have been taken into custody following reports of injuries and an assault at Otamarakau, between Maketu and Pikowai on Friday evening.

Police received a report of an assault on State Highway 2, near Old Coach Road at 5.22pm on Friday, March 29.

"Police took four people into custody yesterday [Friday] and charged them with disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence following an incident on State Highway 2," says a police spokesperson.

"Staff are still working to determine exactly what happened – but it appears to have been an altercation involving two groups."

Police say the two people initially reported injured were not seriously injured.
