The “I Am Climate Hope Tour”, a collaboration between I Am Hope, Genesis, and supporters such as UBCO and Ara Ake, led by mental health advocate Mike King, is arriving in Whangarei on Tuesday, October 1st.

The event, to be held at the Distinction Hotel, will feature opening remarks from Mayor Vince Cocurullo alongside Mike King and guest speaker Jef Ikenn.

This event will focus on raising awareness of youth mental health, particularly in relation to climate anxiety, while highlighting the work being done by I Am Hope and its partners.

The tour serves as an important initiative to provide communities with resources and support as they navigate these urgent challenges.

“This tour is about connecting with young people, hearing their struggles, and letting them know they aren’t alone in this journey,” said Mike King.

“Every community we visit highlights just how crucial it is to keep the conversation around youth mental health going. These young people need to know that support is available, and by engaging with local communities, we can ensure they feel seen, heard, and supported."

The event is open to the public and free to attend, giving the Whangarei community a chance to engage in discussions about youth mental health and how climate-related issues are affecting young people.

Hmmm

It's extremely upsetting to hear that the climate debate is being seen to affect the mental wellbeing of our children.
I'm not surprised really, as ever growing numbers of people are boarding the gravy train and making financial benefits from dispensing doom and gloom to young minds. Maybe this is yet another avenue to self-employment for some.
Until we, in NZ, start to accept that ongoing issues in the Northern hemisphere are never going to stop, and that any efforts that we might undertake (other than safeguarding what we already have, in terms of stop banks and shoreline buffers) are pointless and are just adding more hot air to an unwinnable debate, we will continue to cause turmoil amongst our youngsters when they should be enjoying life. School days are hard enough without every Chicken Little running around saying that the sky is falling.

Oh stop it.

There is no "climate change", "climate emergency","global warming","sea levels rising", you think tectonic plates, volcanoes, meteorites and solar storms give two hoots about this rubbish. Stop spreading fear and enjoy life, you could end up being "scared to death" if you spend your life worrying over the climate.
