Re:Three Waters placards in Welcome Bay (letters page 24, The Weekend Sun October 4 edition). A few weeks back we were driving into Tauranga. It was a very slow journey, mostly stationery due to hold-ups. That gave us a lot of time to notice the unbelievable amount of trash on both sides of State Highway 2 between Ōmokoroa and Bethlehem.
Car tyres, bits of crashed vehicles, plastic and glass bottles, general plastic items, take-out food and drink containers and household rubbish chucked out of car windows, orange road cones and sign easels left on the roadside by contractors and some cones in varying stages of demolition, having been run over by trucks etc. We see copious numbers of cones left lying on roadsides for months. Not forgetting branches broken off trees hanging over the road. It was a disgrace especially for tourists visiting our fair city.
I don’t know which council is responsible for this section of SH2 but whoever it is you need to send out a road gang to clean up this mess. Take pride in our city.
A clean up of stormwater drains from autumn leaves and grass cuttings would be a good idea as well.
S Gussey, Ōmokoroa.
