The tickets are “selling like hot pies” for the Ōpōtiki Lantern Festival, with almost 1500 sold online before the event.
It is set to be one of the town’s biggest yet, Ōpōtiki District Council’s experience and engagement co-ordinator Iranui Huriwai said.
By Wednesday evening, ticket sales had already reached 1500, with gate sales expected to push attendance over 2000.
“Historically, we’ve been mostly gate sales, although, in recent years, people have been making the most of the lower prices online and grabbing tickets early,” Huriwai said.
“But if we get even a fraction of the usual gate sales, we’ll easily beat our previous records.”
This year’s festival features a strong line-up of artists, drawing local and national talent. Sons of Zion, Ladi6, and Sonorous, alongside rising star Hori Shaw, are among the headline acts.
“Hori Shaw blew up after his incredible performance at One Love on the main stage and with his award at the AMAs [Aotearoa Music Awards]. I think he is a huge drawcard,” Huriwai said.
With favourable weather forecasts, organisers expect a great afternoon of music and entertainment.
Families are encouraged to bring camp chairs and rugs for a comfortable experience, with shaded areas available.
Huriwai said online tickets are still available and recommended purchasing in advance for a discount.
Gate sales will be cashless, and attendees should bring an eftpos card. Family tickets are sold out online, but more have since been added.
The event is whānau-friendly, with no alcohol, drugs, smoking, pets, or gang patches permitted on site.
The Ōpōtiki Lantern Festival occurs on Saturday, February 1, at Princess Street Reserve, from 2pm.
Ticket details can be found on Eventfinda and the festival’s website.
