Applications are now open for the first round of Powerco’s Community Fund.

This year, the Powerco Community Fund will be split into two funding rounds, one in March and the second in August.

Powerco customer general manager Stuart Dickson said he hopes splitting the fund will make it easier for community groups to access timely funding for projects that are important to their community.

“We found one longer funding round didn’t suit the faster turnaround of projects at the grassroots level and we want our funding to be readily available for more community focused initiatives.”

Applications for round one can be made between March 3 - 31 and funding is available for projects to be delivered between June and November this year.

Powerco will be supporting up to $5000 per community project.

Dickson said since the Powerco Community Fund was first launched in 2023 it has supported a range of community initiatives within Powerco’s electricity network.

“We’re looking for projects run by the community for the community in some of the smaller towns and regions we serve – the groups and organisations that may otherwise struggle to find funds for the projects that are meaningful to them and their community.”

Some of last year’s recipients include the Colville Public Hall, Kura Kai, Youth Voices Action, Whiritoa Lifeguard Service and Hauraki Reuse Centre.
