State Highway 2 between Waiotahe and Ōpōtiki has reopened around 4.45pm following a serious vehicle crash.

"Police attended a single vehicle crash on Waiotahe Beach Road at 4pm," Police said.

"One person was seriously injured."

NZTA Waka Kotahi said due to the serious crash, State Highway 2 near the Waiotahe River Bridge was blocked in both directions, with traffic delays. 

"The road was closed as a result of the crash but reopened at around 4.45pm." Police said.

The Ōpōtiki fire service also attended the scene.
