Due to the incoming Cyclone Tam and the need to keep everyone safe, Epic Te Puke has made the decision to postpone the Picture Perfect Easter Trail originally planned for this Easter Saturday.
Photography will take centre stage at this year’s Easter celebrations in Te Puke.
For the third year in a row, Epic Te Puke has tapped into the community’s creativity for an event that combines celebrating with a bit of exercise.
Te Ara Kahikatea Pathway has become central to the celebrations, as a route on which a trail of artworks is set up for people to view as they walk or cycle the route/walkway.
This year it is photography that will take centre stage.
Epic’s Sally Benning said a competition to find the best photographs was well received with lots of entries in the three categories: local pets (open to children 13 or under), local people and local places.
Five photos each from the local people and local places categories will be displayed on the trail, along with eight from the pets category.
Members of Te Puke Creative Forum will judge the competition and there will also be a chance to vote for the people’s choice.
Bingo
Each photograph will have a stamp and anyone registering for the trail will be given a bingo card to fill in as they go around the trial with prizes on offer, including an Avanti bike.
But the trail is only one part of the celebration.
Starting at 9am in Jubilee Park, there will be market stalls and food vendors, donkey rides, face painting and live entertainment.
Harvest Church is holding three Easter egg hunts and the Easter bunny will be on hand.
Te Puke Toy Library – at the beginning or end of the trail, depending on which way round you go – will have an Easter egg hunt for younger children.
Prizegiving will be at 12.30pm.
“One of the things [Epic] are probably quite well known for is organising three or four events that are free of charge for the community every year and so this is one of them,” said Benning.
“If you don’t want to do the bike trail, you don’t have to – there are lots of other things to come along and see and take part in.”
