Six injured in four vehicle crash on SH29

Emergency services are at the scene of a serious four-vehicle crash on State Highway 29.

Police were called to the crash, near the Kaimai summit, at 6.40am. 

"Initial indications are one person has sustained serious injuries, while several others have sustained moderate or minor injuries," said a police spokesperson.

Hato Hone St John was notified of a motor vehicle incident on SH29 at 6.42am.

"One rapid response vehicle and two ambulances attended," said a spokesperson.

"One patient, in a serious condition, was transported to Tauranga Hospital.

"Two patients in a moderate condition were also transported to Tauranga hospital. The remaining three, in minor conditions, were assessed and treated at the scene."

"The road is blocked and traffic management is in place," said police.

"Motorists should avoid the area, or expect delays."

NZTA said the road was likely to be closed for some tme.

"The detour is significant for motorists via Rotorua or Waihī," said a spokeperson for the roading agency.

"\Road users are advised to delay their journey."
