Although the official bowling season has finished, Katikati Bowling Club member Kevin Whitworth wants the community to know that the facility is still a bustling hive of activity.

“People don’t know about a lot of the activities we run, unfortunately,” said Whitworth, who is a club representative of activities.

“We have a range of games and events on offer to our club members – but the public is also welcome to come along to enjoy them too.”

The Katikati Bowling Club has one natural turf green and one excellent artificial green on offer for ladies’ and men’s bowling, with free coaching available on request.

Whitworth said bowling for club members is from 1pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays – “but anyone who is interested can come along and see if they want to join,” he said.

“We currently have more than 100 club members, of which about 70 are playing members.”

Aside from bowls, the club hosts Housie, quiz nights, Rummikub, and Cards 500, all of which are open to the public.

“We run Housie every second Tuesday night from 6pm to 8.30pm. Our next Housie dates are June 3 and June 17, then July 1, July 15 and July 29. We really would like more people to come along and enjoy this activity.”

Every second Wednesday of the month is a quiz night for everyone from 6pm-8.30pm.

“We run the quiz with teams of six – but if you don’t have five mates available, just turn up and we’ll find you a team. We get about 70 to the quiz night so it’s a lot of fun. It’s worth a visit!” The next quiz dates are June 11, June 25 and July 9.

The club also runs two more weekly activities: Rummikub from 1pm-3.30pm every Thursday, and Cards 500 from 1pm-4pm every Friday.

“Our club bar is open for Housie, quiz nights and Friday nights, where we run a happy hour from 4pm to 6.30pm. This is proving a popular time for socialising. So please come along and enjoy the activities we have on offer – everyone and their friends are welcome to participate!”
