Tree-felling works are expected to cause traffic delays on State Highway 29 this week.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) said people travelling on SH29, between Tauriko and the power station at Ruahihi, can expect minor delays on Wednesday.

From 10am and 12pm tree-felling works will take place near the Ōmanawa Bridge.

“Traffic will be slowed through this area as trees are being cut down and once safely on the ground vehicles will be allowed past,” the roading agency said in a statement.

“People are asked to drive with care while this work is done.

This is preparatory work for the replacement of the Ōmanawa Bridge, part of the broader Tauriko West Roads of National Significance (RoNS) project, NZTA said.

Main works for the bridge replacement are expected to begin later this year.

Ludicrous Delays

The delays caused around our roads are utterly ludicrous.
About a week ago I was driving through Greerton and there were 2 men with a weed-eater each and another on a ride-on lawn mower. They were mowing the traffic island grass strip. There were 2 warning trucks and 14 people total. Most were waving little orange flags to slow traffic but interestingly were hardly even glancing up at the traffic. Just dawdling along stone kicking or texting to the extent that some were even well ahead of the 3 workers slowing traffic for no reason whatsoever. Mindless.

Twice I've seen a fire truck cutting up fallen trees on SH29 near Gargan Road, I would of thought this was a priority before we get more bad weather.
