Powerco said field crews have made good progress today restoring supply to western Bay of Plenty customers whose power was cut because of high winds on Sunday night.

“Arborists were required to remove tree debris from lines at several locations to enable crews to make repairs to the electricity network,” Powerco said.

As of 4.15pm, power has been restored to all but one customer affected by the Te Puke No 2 Rd outage. The remaining customer can expect to have power restored this evening, said Powerco.

All customers were restored by 3.15pm today at the Te Puke outage on Te Puke Quarry Road.

In Katikati’s Tuapiro Rd, all customers’ power was restored by 3.08pm today following the outage.

“Powerco thanks customers for their patience and understanding as crews worked as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to all affected customers.”

Powerco is New Zealand’s largest dual electricity and gas distributor by network length, with over 900,000 Kiwis (across over 473,000 connections) connected to its networks.

Powerco’s electricity network covers Coromandel to South Waikato, Tauranga and Mt Maunganui, Taranaki, Whanganui, Rangitīkei, Manawatū and Wairarapa. Its gas network covers Taranaki, Horowhenua, Hawke’s Bay, Manawatū, Porirua, Hutt Valley and Wellington.
