The cause of a house fire in Ōtūmoetai this afternoon is under investigation, after fire crews responded to reports of a smoke-filled home.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand received the call at 2.26pm, reporting smoke and a sounding alarm coming from a three-storey property.
“We received a call to a smoke-logged three-storey house with the smoke alarm sounding,” said shift manager Garreth Lewis.
Three fire trucks from the Tauranga and Greerton stations were sent to the scene.
The fire was located in a bedroom on the second floor of the 15-by-15 metre house and was quickly brought under control.
“We have extinguished the fire, are damping down hotspots, and ventilating the house,” said Lewis. “The fire was just contained to that one bedroom on the second floor.”
It is not yet known whether anyone was home at the time. A fire investigator has attended to determine the cause.
