Car crashes into pole, sparks local power outage

Power was cut to parts of Otūmoetai after a car hit a power pole on Vale St.

Emergency services were called to the crash at 6.30pm Thursday.

A police spokesperson said one vehicle was involved.

“Looks like a vehicle crashed into a power pole, no injuries were reported and no blockages to the road.”

Powerco said the outage affected 900 properties.

“Power was restored to 389 customers in 8 minutes, 278 customers within 1.5 - 2 hours,” a spokesperson said in a statement this morning.

Powerco said 233 customers were without power for six hours and it was restored by 12.34am.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
