Roading crews will be a familiar sight around Rotorua over the next month, with a significant piece of work taking place.

Sandra King, Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) Bay of Plenty system manager, said the lead up to Christmas was a busy time.

“To make it as smooth as possible, we need to work together.

“You can do your part by following the signs, temporary speed limits and any instructions our crew may give you.

From 8am on Monday, November 10, until 5.30pm on Friday, December 12, State Highway 30A (SH30A) would be closed between Te Ngae Road and Hinemaru Street / the right-turn bay into Pak’nSave supermarket.

This closure was the quickest and safest way to carry out the necessary road rebuild with asphalt layers, which requires large volumes of plant and equipment to be on site.

All four lanes of SH30A, both in each direction, would be rebuilt giving the road a fresh, smooth asphalt finish that would improve driving conditions and extend the life of the road.

While the road was closed, a detour was in place via State Highway 30 (SH30) Te Ngae Road, left to Sala Street, right to Fenton Street, to Amohau Street and vice versa.

Businesses and residents would have their access maintained into Marguerita Street and Te Ngae Road.

“This work is disruptive”, said King, “however, the benefits outweigh the negatives.

“We simply can’t complete the significant amount of asphalt rebuild work at this location without causing disruption to people’s journeys.”
