A body has been recovered from Lake Taupō.

Police were called to the location near Wharewaka Point about 11.10am after someone saw a body in the water a short distance offshore.

Local iwi Tūwharetoa are placing a rāhui on the section of the lake.

The death will be referred to the coroner.
