Roading crews will be a familiar sight around Rotorua over the next month, with a significant piece of work taking place.
“The lead-up to Christmas is a busy time on our roads, for both those working on them and those travelling on them,” NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi System Manager Bay of Plenty Sandra King said.
“To make it as smooth as possible, we need to work together. You can do your part by following the signs, temporary speed limits and any instructions our crew may give you.
From 8am today, Sunday, November 16 until 5.30pm on Friday, December 12, State Highway 30A will be closed between Te Ngae Rd and Fenton St / the right-turn bay into Pak’nSave supermarket.
NZTA said this closure is the quickest and safest way to carry out the necessary road rebuild with asphalt layers, which requires large volumes of plant and equipment to be on site.
“All four lanes of SH30A, both in each direction, will be rebuilt giving the road a fresh, smooth asphalt finish that will improve driving conditions and extend the life of the road.”
While the road is closed, a detour via State Highway 30 (SH30) Te Ngae Rd, left to Sala St, right to Fenton St, to Amohau St and vice versa. Businesses and residents will have their access maintained into Marguerita St and Te Ngae Rd. Pedestrians and cyclists are asked to use the sign-posted track.
“This work is disruptive,” King said. “However, the benefits outweigh the negatives. We simply can’t complete the significant amount of asphalt rebuild work at this location without causing disruption to people’s journeys.”
