Warm, muggy conditions are set to return to the region for the final week of spring.

Temperatures are expected to climb back into the 20s in Bay of Plenty this week, with about 26C forecast for Friday.

In its latest weather update, MetService said the final week of the season will be a mixed bag, featuring muggy conditions, showers and the chance of thunderstorms later in the week.

While today began on the cooler side, by midweek the region will feel noticeably warmer and stickier.

Daytime highs will sit in the low-to-mid 20s, while overnight temperatures hover in the mid-to-high teens, making for muggy nights.

Most places would see showers at times, especially on Friday, which was shaping up to be the most unsettled day of the week with the chance of thunderstorms.

“This will be a good week to keep up with your local day-to-day forecast and an eye on our rain radars within our app and website,” MetService meteorologist Mmathapelo Makgabutlane said.

“There’ll be plenty of dry breaks, but those showers could catch people off guard.”

What to watch

– Temperatures climbing back into the 20s from Tuesday

– Muggy nights from Wednesday

– Showers and possible thunderstorms on Friday
