A South Waikato woman woke to the sound of a gunshot this morning while staying in Te Puke.

Donna Jacobsen said it had been a “bloody hectic morning” waking in the early hours of this morning to a loud bang.

As she left, she saw police at both ends and in the middle of Atuaroa Ave, and there were three “yellow markings” on the footpath and about half a dozen on the road.

She didn’t know what the markings were for, but said she felt shaken up.

Police had cordoned off a Bay of Plenty street following a gunshot aimed at a house this morning.

Police said they received a report of a firearm being discharged towards a house in Te Puke at about 5.15am.
