Police have named the person who died in an Eastern Bay of Plenty crash this week.

She was Ngahina Takarangi, 44, of Whakatāne.

Another person was seriously injured in the crash.

Emergency services were called to White Pine Bush Rd near Tāneatua about 6.05pm on Tuesday after reports a car had crashed into the Whakatāne River.

Police said today the crash was under investigation and they were seeking witnesses.

“We’d like to hear from anybody who saw a red Honda Accord travelling in and around Tāneatua between 5.30pm and 6pm on Tuesday, 2 December.
