Three flavours of Tom & Luke Snackaballs have been recalled because of the possible presence of hard plastic.
New Zealand Food Safety (NZFS) said the organisation was helping Smartfoods recall batches of the chocolate-coated cookies and cream, raspberry and hazelnut products.
NZFS said the following date markings were affected by the recall:
- Cookies & Cream (112g): Best before September 11, 2026
- Hazelnut (112g): Best before September 3 and September 11, 2026
- Raspberry (112g): Best before September 11, September 15 and October 16, 2026.
The products are packaged in plastic pouches and sold at select retail outlets and supermarkets throughout New Zealand.
This recall does not affect any other Tom & Luke brand products.

NZFS deputy director-general Vincent Arbuckle said the products should not be eaten.
“You can return them to the place of purchase for a refund. If that’s not possible, throw it out,” he said.
“As is our usual practice, NZFS will work with Smartfoods Ltd to understand how the contamination occurred and prevent its recurrence.”
The affected products, which have also been exported to Australia, have been removed from shelves.
The majority of food sold in New Zealand is safe, but sometimes problems can occur. Consumers are advised to help keep themselves and their family safe by subscribing to NZFS recall alerts.
Information on how to subscribe is on the NZFS food recall page.
