Te Puke Library’s Summer Reading Programmes are just around the corner.
The programmes are aimed at two age groups – for teen readers there’s a creative book Book Bingo Challenge, while Raumati Rauemi - Te Taiao is more activity-based and is for primary school-aged children.
Nature (Te Taiao) is the theme of this summer’s primary school age programme.
“Raumati Rauemi is full of different activities to do through the summer holiday, with a focus on reading because as we know, the children can get a summer slump in reading levels which can go down before students go back to school,” said Te Puke Library and Service Centre team leader Amanda-Jane McFadden.
The booklet also has a reading challenge log to be filled in.
“For every 60 minutes of reading the children do, they get an entry into the prize draw at the end of the summer.”
There are also missions to accomplish and one completed mission or three completed quick missions secures an invitation to the end-of-summer finale party.
Online or in-person registration for the programmes is open from December 8 and the summer activity booklet can be collected from the library.
Once missions are completed and the reading log filled in, the booklet can be taken into the library to be stamped. The last week to show booklets is the week beginning January 19, 2026.
There is also an in-library scavenger hunt and a colouring competition – both with the theme of nature – and a craft session on January 7 at 10am.
Register for the craft online at: eventbrite.co.nz or pop into the library and see the staff.
There is no need to register for Book Bingo – just collect the Book Bingo booklet from the library and start reading to be in with a chance to win prizes.
