The Matua Bowling Club is unlikely to get any help from the city council in funding in the current financial year.
At the city council's Annual Plan meeting Tauranga City Councillors turned down the club's request for $95,000 of ratepayers' money to allow the project to go ahead this financial year.

There will be no budget allocation included in the draft plan. The bowling club will be advised to make a submission to the Draft Annual Plan 2010. It will also give the club more certainty regarding obtaining more funding from other sources.
