Tauranga's western suburbs look likely to run out of water by noon tomorrow unless drastic water savings are made.
The three reservoirs that supply water to Bethlehem, Brookfield, Otumoetai and Matua were just over half full at 2.30pm on Thursday, about 21 hours after the water main feeding the Cambridge Road reservoirs ruptured on Wednesday evening.
See below for Mayor Stuart Crosby's comment.
A replacement section of pipe is expected to be delivered to the Chadwick Road site on Friday morning.
People living in the affected areas are being urged by Tauranga City Council to not water the garden, wash the car, run baths or use any water to excess.
Currently there is 80 litres per second being supplied to the reervoirs with 150 litres per second going out. Normal peak use can exceed 200 litres per second. This is likely at evening and morning times.
Crews will be working through the night to repair the water main.
