Water restored in Ohauiti

Ohauiti residents are again able to access water after a break in the main cut connection for about eight hours overnight.

Water was returned to most houses that lost connection about 11.30pm on Wednesday, Tauranga City Council advises today.

The system was back to normal operating pressure about 2am.

Water went out about 4pm after a break in the main on Ohauiti Road.

Contractors worked on the break through the night with traffic down to one lane on a short section of Ohauiti Road.

'Contractors are having to dig to find the exact spot where a water main is leaking,” said communications advisor Marcel Currin.

'We've had calls from residents in Hollister Lane, Brackenburn Drive and Corwen Avenue, who had a temporary loss of water supply and are now on very low water pressure. This is all linked to the water main break on Ohauiti Road.”

Contractors delivered water to some of these residents where required. Residents on low water pressure were asked to limit their water use if possible.

An emergency water supply station was located at 181 Ohauiti Road and bottled water was available outside 175 Ohauiti Road.

Council advises there will be some road reinstatement required as a result of repair excavations.

Is this related to the flooding of the house in Lochinvar Place? If so the Council could chip in with the Landlords Insurance Company and put the family up in temporary accomodation.
