Households and businesses in the block around Brown Street, Chapel Street, Mission Street and Cliff Road are being advised of an emergency water shutdown this afternoon.

Tauranga City Council reports the emergency shutdown will begin at 4pm and should be back on by 7pm.

Council communications advisor Marcel Currin says this is so repairs can be made to a faulty water valve.

A water tanker will be stationed on Cliff Road during the shutdown to supply water during the shutdown.
