A scheduled water shutdown due to take place in Ohauiti overnight will now happen next Tuesday.

Tauranga City Council says the shutdown due to take place from 9pm Wednesday to 3pm today was postponed to keep resources free in case of possible heavy rains.

The shutdown will not take place from 9pm Tuesday, December 3 until 3am December 4.

It will affect Ohauiti Road and surrounding streets.

The shutdown is required so that a water main that failed two weeks ago can be decommissioned; a new 200mm valve is to be installed on the corner of Harrisfield Drive and Ohauiti Road, which will provide better security of supply for the future, says TCC.

Affected customers will have a new shutdown notice delivered to them.
