An arson attack on the bushes near the Daisy Hardwick boardwalk left the boardwalk singed around the edges overnight.
The Tauranga Fire Brigade was called to the fire at about 10.30pm after a member of the public reported it.
The Tauranga Fire Brigade was called to an arson near the Daisy Hardwick boardwalk overnight.
Tauranga Fire Brigade senior station officer Mark Keller says somebody set fire to some pampas bush near the Daisy Hardwick boardwalk.
He says part of the boardwalk was damaged
'We were there for about an hour and half because we had to make sure the boardwalk was out.
'The fire was deliberately lit and burnt a lot of pampas grass which had grown right to the edge of the boardwalk.”
Mark says the fire hasn't made the boardwalk unsafe, 'it's just burnt the edges but we had to spend quite a long time making sure it was out”.
'Tanalised timber continues to burn with all the chemicals in it.”
