Water shutdown in Western Bay

Residents in parts of the Western Bay of Plenty will be without water overnight on Thursday as repair works are undertaken on a water valve.

The water shutdown affecting properties in the Western Bay of Plenty District Council's Central Supply Zone – which includes Omokoroa, Whakamarama, Pahoia and Apata areas will run from 11pm Thursday to 7.30am Friday, March 7.

A planned water shutdown will affect residents in the State Highway 2 central supply zone.

Council utilities manager Kelvin Hill says the outage is to allow council time to replace a water valve up Old Taupo Road.

'We are replacing and modifying the water valve to allow us to have another water flow into the Omokoroa area.

'When we have a breakage we can only get water going in one direction so we have decided it makes sense to be able to bring water from another source.”

Kelvin says this is a planned shutdown and signage has been set up on the roadside advising residents. Letters have also been sent to affected residents.

Affected residents are advised to turn off their power supply and not to use their hot water cylinder. It is recommended to have some water stored for personal use during the shutdown.

Council says during the shutdown some properties may need to be accessed to flush outside taps. Residents are advised that all City Care staff will carry warrant identification cards for verification.

Any issues people are advised to contact WBOPDC on 0800 926 732.
