Applications for round two of sponsorship through the Thames Coromandel District Council major events fund are now open.
A total of $45,000 is available for groups and organisations planning on establishing a major event in the Coromandel.
Major events such as the Leadfoot Festival were one of numerous events to receive sponsorship from the Thames Coromandel District Council through its major events fund.
Events play a big role in the social calendar of local communities and encourages those outside the area and tourists to visit, says a TCDC spokesperson.
The events also have an important economic benefit.
'It is for these reasons we will support quality events, especially those that have potential to become iconic Coromandel events like the Scallop Festival and Beach Hop.”
Events that received funding during round one earlier this year include the Leadfoot Festival, Thunderbeach, Thames Festival of Mindsports and Tairua Wet n Wild.
To apply, download an application form from the TCDC website. After completing the form, you will need to return it with supporting information to council.
There is a strict criteria for applicants and the TCDC strongly recommended that you check out the full list of requirements before applying.
The criteria includes events must be held within Thames-Coromandel, that they attract a strong national and regional media profile, bring domestic and international tourism into the area, and must be unique to the Coromandel or align well with the district's brand.
Preference will be given to events that provide the best potential for economic benefit including the potential to attract at least 5000 visitor days – or equivalent economic impact - to the Coromandel, attract support from Regional Tourism Operators and the private sector, and that have the potential to become an icon event.
Round two applications for the TCDC Major Events Fund close October 15.
