Thames Coromandel District Council would like to hear from people interested in establishing businesses in Kopu.
Council wants to retain existing businesses while also attracting newcomers in the Kopu and Kaiwhenua areas through its Kopu Doing Business Better programme.
TCDC is looking to establish more businesses within Kopu.
A working group has been set up consisting of council staff and representatives from the NZ Transport Authority, Waikato Regional Council, local iwi and the Kopu Land Owners Association.
The working group, alongside consultants Beca, has produced a draft Kopu Development Plan which has been submitted to Council's Proposed District Plan.
'Kopu is the best piece of industrial and commercial development on the Coromandel. It is a central location to three major cities – Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga,” reports TCDC.
Council has also begun storm water modelling to reduce costs to potential developers and is proposing land acquisition for storm water retention, to be consulted on during its Long Term Plan (2015-2025).
'The Kopu Development Group, made up of the local business association, has also been set up to look at marketing and investment opportunities within Kopu.”
Chorus has also confirmed two cabinets at Kopu will be upgraded as part of the government's Rural Broadband Initiative. There is also spare fibre available for businesses wanting fibre services. To learn more email Greg Hampton at greg.hampton@tcdc.govt.nz
